Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has nominated shooter Avani Lekhara as the brand ambassador of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign in the state. Avani Lekhara won a gold medal Monday at the Tokyo Paralympics Monday.
Women and Child Development Minister Mamta Bhupesh said her department is proud to have named Lekhara as the brand ambassador of the campaign. She is a symbol of pride for Rajasthan, the minister said.
Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Shreya Guha, said in a release that through Lekhara, an environment would be created in society to educate and promote daughters.
Lekhara, 19, hails from Jaipur. She is also the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Lekhara struck gold in the R-2 women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. After the event she had said that she would like to achieve more success in the Paris Paralympics three years later.
