Mumbai: Raksha Bandhan, is a popular, traditionally Hindu, annual rite, or ceremony, which is central to a festival of the same name, celebrated in India, some parts of South Asia, and among people around the world influenced by Hindu culture.
On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman, or amulet, called the rakhi, around the wrists of their brothers, symbolically protecting them, receiving a gift in return, and traditionally investing the brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care.
This relationship between siblings has been portrayed differently over the years in the movies.
Fiza
The two siblings, Fiza, played by Karisma Kapoor, and Aman, Hrithik Roshan, share a powerful bond. But things go wrong one day and Aman disappears. Tired of waiting for his return, Fiza launches her own search and goes hunting to bring her brother back home. But she finds that he’s now allied with terrorists and can’t get out of their web even if he wants to.
Hare Rama Hare Krishna
This film is arguably the first in the Hindi film industry that depicted the character of a sister in a more modernistic way. Zeenat Aman essayed the role of a rebellious sister while Dev Anand played the protective older brother.
Josh
This film of Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan showed that brother-sister relationship can be ‘cool’. Shah Rukh and Aishwarya’s mischief and love for each other in the movie won everyone’s heart.
Dil Dhadakne Do
This film featuring Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra showed the ‘bro-sis’ relationship in a very good light. It also carried a message that the things which you hesitate to say to your parents can be spoken in front of your sister.
Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na
Although the film was a love story, it threw light on the modern relationship of a brother and a sister. Genelia D’Souza and Prateik Babbar have shown in a very simple way that sometimes we forget this relationship after a third person enters the fray, but this is the relationship that stands firmly behind you all the time.
Bumm Bumm Bole
This is one of the best films made on brother-sister relationship. We often hide things from parents to save our siblings from trouble. Darsheel Safary and Ziyah Vastani also did something similar in this film.
