Rape accused constable absolved of charge, girl’s cousin arrested

Phulbani:  The case of a constable allegedly raping a physically challenged girl at a place under Khajuripada police limits in this district has taken a new turn with the police absolving the constable of the rape charges.

The cops meanwhile arrested the victim’s cousin and produced him in a court Thursday.

According to police sources, the victim, after casting her vote, had gone to his uncle’s house at Khajuripada April 18. After staying there for ten days, she had gone to her brother-in-law’s house at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar. Her uncle’s son Harihara Nayak had been frequenting to her brother-in-law’s house.

Khajuripada inspector-in-charge Ramakanta Patra said Harihara had established physical relationship with the girl there. Later, she came to know of her pregnancy. On the basis of her allegation, the police had registered a case (Case No -82/19) against a constable.

Considering the seriousness of the case, police launched an investigation. The victim’s ultrasound report suggested that the girl conceived after May 4 – during her stay in Bhubaneswar.

That said, Harihara claimed to be innocent and said that he has been implicated in a trumped-up case.
