Berhampur: The local Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here Wednesday sentenced a man for life for raping and threatening his daughter. Justice Deepak Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the guilty.
According to special public prosecutor Narayan Panda, the judge has also directed the DLSO to pay the victim a sum of Rs 7,00,000 for rehabilitation. He added that the judge was satisfied with the evidence produced in court and based his verdict on the statements of eight witnesses.
The convict raped his daughter for the first time in March 2016 and committed the ghastly act again in the same month. He also threatened to throttle her if she opened her mouth and refused to comply with his wishes.
Unable to bear the torture, the victim along with her two sisters shifted to a relative’s place after the second incident. She also lodged a written complaint with Purusottampur police in Ganjam district, March 29 that year.
The police lodged a case (No. 58/17) and conducted an investigation. The accused father was arrested and later the investigating officer Beauty Mohanty submitted the chargesheet. The convict has been lodged in Berhampur circle jail since his arrest.
