Ravenshaw students stage road block over the death of a student

Cuttack: Students of the Ravenshaw University staged a road block Friday on the busy College Square junction in front of the main gate of the institution. They were demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family of Annapurna Choudhary who was killed in an accident Thursday in front of the university. The students also demanded that plying of heavy vehicles should be banned on roads in front of Ravenshaw University.

Annapurna, a resident of Choudwar area in Cuttack was a Plus-3 final year student of the Economics Department in Ravenshaw University.

According to locals, Annapurna was riding her two-wheeler and going home after the Teachers Day function. However, she lost control of her scooty and fell down. A speeding truck ran over her killing her instantly on the spot. The truck driver then fled with his vehicle towards OMP square.

Vehicular traffic on the main road was also disrupted Friday following the stir. Police officials reached the spot and started an inquiry. Later, the truck, which is said to be from West Bengal, was seized near Chauliaganj in Cuttack.
