Ahmedabad: Indian off-spinner Ravichandra Ashwin became the fourth Indian bowler Thursday to capture 400 Test wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the feat by dismissing Jofra Archer in England’s second innings at the Motera stadium here. The other Indian bowlers to have achieved the feat are Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh. Ashwin’s tally stands exactly at 400 now after he picked up the wickets of Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope and Archer.

Ashwin became the second quickest bowler to reach the 400-wicket mark by achieving the feat in just 77 wickets. Only Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan (72 Tests) got to 400 wickets the fastest among all the bowlers to have achieved the distinction.
In the first innings of the India-England Test, the off-spinner had also picked up three wickets. However, this has been a game which has been dominated by left-arm spinner Axar Patel. He has got six wickets in the first innings and five in the second. However, in the second Test of the series against England at Chennai, Ashwin had also scored a century. So this has indeed been a memorable series for him.
