Bhubaneswar, Sept 29: Orissa is basking in the achievements of its sons and daughters. After Ananya and Google girl Lalita, now two Oriyas will be conferred the prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar award for their exceptional contribution in the field of science.
Jyotiranjan Srichandan Ray was chosen from the field of earth, atmosphere, ocean and planetary sciences while Bedangadas Mohanty from the National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar was selected under the physical sciences category. Jyotiranjan is now working at Physical Science Laboratory in Ahmadabad.
The award which is considered to be a coveted honour in the country will be given by the ministry of science and technology. The ministry will also confer 11 awards in seven different fields.
Balasubramanian Gopal of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Rajeev Kumar Varshney of International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) were chosen for the award in the category of biological science.
Yogesh Joshi from IIT Kanpur was selected for the awards in the field of engineering sciences while Mandar Deshmukh from the TIFR Mumbai was selected from the physical sciences category.
In the field of mathematical sciences Ritabrata Munshi from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai and K Sandeep from TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Bangalore, will be conferred the award.
Vidita Vaidya from TIFR Mumbai bagged the award in the medical science category.
D Srinivasa Reddy from CSIR’s National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Pradyut Ghosh from the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur, were selected for the award in the category of chemical sciences.
