Rayagada station to get facelift

Rayagada: The Rayagada railway station will be upgraded with world-class facilities.

The renovation work is expected to start after obtaining the ISO-14001 certification by the end of September, for which a two-member railway team visited the station Wednesday.

The process to upgrade six railway stations under the East Coast Railway has already begun and Rayagada is one among them.

Rayagada has got the status of a railway division. The two officials who inspected the railway station were SK Vidyarthi and YK Prasad of the International Standards Organisation (ISO).

According to sources, the team has given priority to improvisation and importance to ‘making the surroundings clean and green’.

Moreover, the railway authorities have been advised to provide better drinking water facilities, retiring rooms and waiting lounges and establish clean and serene atmosphere in and around the station. “After obtaining ISO certification, the renovation and beautification works will start,” said the team head Vidyarthi.

The team has advised the station authorities to stop unwanted people from entering the platform without a valid ticket and disturbing the passengers. The team has also asserted, “If the existing faults can be eliminated, certainly Rayagada can become a world-class railway station.”

It also identified all the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats pertaining to the project planning. The team is said to have felt the need for one more platform at the station.
