Bhubaneswar: Re-polling was conducted peacefully in nine booths across the state, where voting was suspended following technical glitches in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and vandalisation of the machines.
Fresh polling was held in booth No. 129 under Bonai Assembly constituency; booth No. 213 under Sundargarh; booth Nos. 210 & 222 under Daspalla; polling station No. 235 under Attabira, booth No. 68 under Bargarh; booth No. 16 under Padampur; booth No. 254 in Brajarajnagar and booth No. 182 of Sorada constituency.
Snags in voting machines affected elections held in all the three phases so far. Even, the problems led to suspension of polling process in several booths.
Not only the wrong swapping, technical snags in EVMs have also delayed the voting process at several places in the past three phases.
Recurring problems in the voting machines have raised questions on the tall claims of the authorities in charge of election management that all steps taken to ensure smooth election were foolproof. Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar had termed the problems as ‘man-made’ and admitted the fault by polling personnel.
CEO office sources said 70.5 per cent polling was recorded at booth Nos. 129 and 213 in Sundargarh Lok Sabha segment while 68.15% voting was registered at booth No.210 & 222, 73.8% at three booths under Attabira, Padampur and Bargarh constituencies. Similarly, 77.93% and 79.03% polling was recorded at booth No. 254 in Brajarajnagar and No.182 in Sorada Assembly segments respectively.
