Bhubaneswar: A recreational centre for senior citizens by the Silver Age Foundation was inaugurated here Thursday.
The senior population is quite varied, with a diversity of interests, strengths, and abilities. The first-of-its-kind recreation centre in the state, aims to engage the elderly in various activities like music, Yoga, dance and smartphone usage among several others.
Ruturaj Patnaik, trustee of the foundation, said, “You can find multiple such centres for the youth and the children but little has been done for the elderly.”
Through this venture of ours, we plan to provide the senior citizens with a platform where they can interact with members of their age group and have a good time overcoming loneliness and neglect, he added.
The centre will function three days a week, namely Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with 2-hour sessions each which will be conducted by Naba Kishore Mohanty. Anyone of 55 years or above can join the sessions. The participants will get certificate of appreciation.
