Chelsea edge past Inter Milan

Chicago: Liverpool scored three second half goals to wrap up their pre-season tour with a dominating 4-1 victory over Manchester United while Chelsea edged past Inter Milan 5-4 on penalties in the International Champions Cup, Saturday.

Sadio Mane converted from the spot to open the scoring for Liverpool on 28 minutes before Andreas Pereira restored parity for the Red Devils three minutes to go into the half time tied at 1-1.

However, the Jurgen Klopp coached Liverpool seized command in the second half with Daniel Sturridge giving them the lead in the 66th minute.

Eight minutes later Sheyi Ojo scored from a second penalty to make it 3-1 for Liverpool and that set the stage for debutant Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri who scored from a spectacular bicycle-kick inside the box off a nice feed from Ben Woodburn to complete the rout at a packed 101,000 crowd at the Michigan Stadium.

Elsewhere at Nice (France), Chelsea goalkeeper goalkeeper Willy Caballero blocked a shot from Milan Skriniar in the shootout to hand the Blues their second win of the season. Both teams finished 1-1 after the regulation time.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Tammy Abraham, Victor Moses, Danny Drinkwater and Jorginho scored for Chelsea while Andrea Rannochea, Roberto Gagliardini, Lautaro Martinez and Yann Karamoh were on target for Inter in the shootouts.

Spain international Pedro struck his second of the season in the eight minute slotting in a rebound after Inter keeper Samir Handanovic saved from a lively Alvaro Morata.

Inter levelled early in the second half through Gagliardini, whose drilled shot proved too much for Argentina’s Caballero after fellow half-time substitute Tiemoue Bakayoko gave the ball away.

Inter would have scored the winner in the stoppage had Lautaro Martinez’s shot was not paved away by Caballero.
