New Delhi: The BJP-led government has decided to snap the LPG gas connection of around 1 crore beneficiaries for not refilling the gas cylinders provided under Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY).
As per report, nearly 80 per cent of PMUY beneficiaries, who have completed one year of connection release, have come back for the second refill. But, at least one crore beneficiaries (20 per cent) have not come to refill ever since they got the LPG connection.
Even among the four crore beneficiaries, who have come to refill the LPG cylinder second time, have not come for third time or using LPG for cooking purpose regularly, reports said.
So, the government has decided to snap the connection all the beneficiaries who have failed to refill the cylinders. The dateline for the last refill is November 30. If the gas cylinders are not refilled by November 30, the gas connection will be stopped from December 1.
The scheme was rolled out by Prime Minister May 1, 2016 at Balia in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Under PMUY, the government had set target of giving LPG connection to 5 crore families. Going by its success, the government later increased the target to 8 crore.
