Puri: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has initiated the process to mend cracks on the roof of Srimandir Jagamohan.
The director general of ASI has recently approved a proposal in this regard. Sources said senior officials of ASI will soon discuss the issue with the members of Shree Jagannath temple technical committee.
“We will seek inputs from the Srimandir technical committee to prepare a blueprint and estimates for renovating Jagamohan roof. Members of the temple technical committee will participate in a review meeting May 23,” said an ASI official.
The ASI, public works department (PWD) and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) are installing stainless steel frames at Jagamohan to strengthen its four columns and eight beams.
According to sources, ASI and PWD experts will use at least 212 stainless steel bars to strengthen the crumbling structure. “Our workers have so far installed 207 stainless steel bars at Jagamohan. The process will be completed by May 27,” said the official.
The ASI and PWD authorities have informed the Orissa High Court to complete repair works at Jagamohan by June 2.
ASI sources said the central agency has decided to beautify Jagamohan after installation of the steel frames at the structure. “We will start the beautification work after the Annual Rath Yatra. We require at least two months for the purpose,” added the official.
Notably, the HC has constituted a single-member panel to monitor Jagamohan renovation while dealing with a PIL on the issue. It had also served notices on the ASI and state government asking them to expedite the repair work.
