Rescue team recovers body of VSSUT student Chinmayee

Sambalpur: The body of Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo — a former student of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) who allegedly jumped into the Power Channel in Burla yesterday– was recovered Wednesday.

Fire Services personnel managed to recover it today from the channel, a source said.

According to the source, Chinmayee came from her native place –Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district — to VSSUT yesterday for the convocation ceremony to obtain her degree.

Later, she went to the Power Channel bridge with a male friend where she allegedly jumped from the bridge.

Police and Fire Service personnel reached to the spot and launched a search operation to find her after being intimated.

Police, meanwhile, have questioned her friend — who went with her to the bridge — in this connection.

Chinmayee’s family members alleged that victim was murdered by her male friend.

Family members of Chinmayee made such accusations after witnessing injury marks – caused due to suspected strangulation – on her neck, the source added.

However, the exact reason behind this case is still unclear. Local police said that they will be able to comment after receiving the post-mortem report.
