Barang: The pangolin mother-baby duo, which has been rescued by a Special Task Force of the Crime Branch from Udala in Mayurbhanj in the wee hours of Saturday, got a new home with the Forest authorities handing over the duo to the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) authorities here Sunday.
According to NZP sources, the scaled animals have been quarantined at the veterinary hospital on the zoo premises. “The mother pangolin is around six-year-old while the baby is of around six months. With this addition, the pangolin count at NZP has reached 17 including 10 females, five males and two young ones whose gender is yet to be ascertained.
The pangolins were kept at the city forest at Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar. “Range officer Govind Chandra Biswal handed over the reptiles to the Nandankanan authorities in the afternoon,” a senior NZP official said.
