Restoration work for facilities at full swing: Padhi

Removal of debris is being carried out at quick pace to facilitate the movement of traffic

Bhubaneswar: Restoration of emergency facilities in the cities of Puri and Bhubaneswar are after both were devastated Friday by the extreme severe cyclonic storm, Fani at full swing stated Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here, Sunday.

He also informed that at present 29 deaths have officially been confirmed – 21 from the Puri district and eight from other regions. However, these are preliminary figures and the toll may rise as reports come in from all the districts hit by Fani. Orissa POST has put the figure at 43.

Padhi informed that for restoration of water supply facility in Puri, work is on emergency mode and by Sunday evening 90 per cent of the job will be done.

Meanwhile Energy Secretary Hemant Sharma told reporters that by Sunday evening, power supply will be restored to the railway stations, airport, hospitals and other medical facilities. However, the residents of the city will have to wait for a day or two for the beginning of restoration of domestics power supply.

Sharma stated that the domestic power supply will have to be handled carefully. “We will first ensure that all distribution lines safe before starting the supply. It will start in the Capital city from Monday evening onwards,” said Sharma
