Bhubaneswar: The investigation into the murder case of former Health Minister Naba Das will be monitored by Justice JP Das, a retired judge of the Orissa High Court. The Crime Branch of Odisha Police is currently conducting the probe in the shooting of Naba Das.
The Odisha government had earlier written to the High Court requesting it to monitor the probe either by a sitting/retired judge of the High Court or by a district judge.
Meanwhile in a separate development, the JMFC court in Brajarajnagar has allowed the Crime Branch to take accused Gopal Das on a four-day remand for further questioning. Gopal has already been dismissed from service. He was earlier produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Naba Das was allegedly shot in chest by Gopal, a former ASI of police, at Gandhi Chhak in Brajrajnagar area of Jharsuguda district January 29. Gopal shot the minister when the latter was getting down from the car to attend an event surrounded by his supporters.
After being rushed to the Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, Naba Das was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he succumbed to his injuries.
