Retired police officer’s son detained over dowry death allegation in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Police have detained a retired police personnel’s son on charges of killing his wife over dowry in Bhubaneswar.

Her parents have alleged that their daughter was killed by her in-laws and husband after their dowry demands were not met.

The parents of Bandana Jena, the deceased woman, recently lodged an FIR with Tomando police station. On the basis of the complaint, the police have detained Jamini Jena, the deceased’s husband, and launched an investigation.

As per the allegation, Bandana married Jaminikant of Tomando area February 16 this year. Jaminikant is the son of Bijay Jena, a retired police officer. Some days after their wedding, the relationship between the couple turned sour as her husband and in-laws had been pressurizing for more dowry.

Bandana’s parents were called up last Friday informing that their daughter had not been well for some days and was admitted to a hospital. But she could not be saved and her body was shifted to Capital Hospital for post mortem.

Bandana’s parents have alleged that she was strangulated to death as her neck bore a strangulation mark.

The investigation is underway.
