Bhubaneswar: Retrenchment of over 7,000 workers by Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has created a commotion in the state. According to sources, over 7,000 workers employed by the discom allegedly lost their jobs amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Many have posted their concerns on social media seeking justice.

In a press meet, the Odisha Youth Congress had claimed that workers, who were serving the company for 10 years, faced unjust sacking. The party said they raised the issue in the Assembly but the result was unfruitful. They stated that the company didn’t care for the future of these retrenched workers.

Earlier, the Odisha Power Employees Union had opposed the eligibility criteria fixed by TPCODL for recruitment to various technical and non-technical posts.

In its recruitment advertisement, it was said that candidates securing 55 per cent marks in HSC, Plus II and degree exams will be eligible to apply for non-technical posts while the eligibility criteria for technical posts were minimum 50 pc marks .
