Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths Tuesday claimed to have arrested Jignipur revenue inspector (RI) while he was taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a person for mutation settlement at Nischintakoili tehsil in this district.
The accused has been identified as Achyudananda Sethi. The Vigilance sleuths also seized chemical-laced notes of Rs 15000 from Sethi and launched a probe.
A local Kailash Chandra Swain has three mutation cases for which on behalf of tehsil, Sethi was assigned for verification of legal documents. The RI had demanded Rs 15,000 from Swain as bribe.
Swain contacted the Vigilance agency of Cuttack to complain about the illegitimate demand following which a trap was laid. He then took the chemical-laced notes of Rs 15,000 and handed them over to Sethi. Vigilance officials disguised in plain clothes caught him red-handed.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at Sethi’s office, residential home at Hirapur village under Salepur police limits. He was taken into custody for further interrogation, a source said.
