RI caught red-handed while accepting Rs5000 bribe in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: The Revenue Inspector (RI) of Baradia Revenue Circle in this district was arrested while taking Rs 5, 000 as bribe Monday.

Odisha Vigilance officials caught Anita Tarai, the RI, red-handed.

Sabita Mallick of Gualigaon village had contacted Tarai for a report on a disputed land as she was directed by tehsildar, Rajkanika.

Tarai had asked her to part with Rs 5, 000 to get the asked report.

With no option left, Mallick had lodged a complaint against the RI with the vigilance department. A trap was laid. As per the plan, Mallick met Tarai at her office Monday and handed over chemical-laced Indian currency notes worth Rs 5, 000.

Just when Tarai accepted the money, the anti-corruption officials stormed into the office and caught her red-handed. The officials recovered the bribe amount from her possession and launched an investigation to find out if she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
