Nuapada: In a continuing series of protests, ruling BJD workers Wednesday staged a road blockade near Kurumapuri village in this district, disrupting traffic and normal life.
Demanding immediate completion of the ongoing repair works on National Highway- 353, the partymen blocked the main road and staged a sit-in protest. Vehicular traffic came to a standstill for several hours on the road connecting Raipur and Gopalpur. Hundreds of trucks remained stranded on the National Highway for several hours.
A day ago, a 24-hour economic blockade was observed by the Nagarika Sachetan Manch over the same demand. The iteration of protests has affected normal life in the area.
The protesters staged road blockades at Khariar, Komna, Udyanabandha, Kurumapuri, Sinapali and Boden. However, plying of private buses was exempted from the purview of the bandh.
“Despite several requests by the locals, the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has failed to complete the NH repair work. As a result, plying of heavy vehicles has been affected. Therefore, we have decided to intensify the agitation,” an agitator said.
