Road dug for level crossing sparks protest

Joda: Tension prevailed in Bileipada area under Joda block in Keonjhar when communication was disrupted after the railways dug up a road for construction of a level crossing at Bileipad-Bhagalpur railway line Monday.

At 11 am, a railway official had engaged an excavator and dug up the road in the presence of police amidst strong protests by locals.

After digging the road, communication was affected in the area. Over 50,000 people living in Bileipada, Bhagalpur, Soyabali, Gobardhanpur and Lahanda depend on the road. As agitation by villagers went on, local and railway police rushed to the spot.

Hareram Singh, a railway police official, said that a top official has ordered closure of the road as heavy vehicles are using it. A level crossing will be built there, he added.

However, adamant villagers insisted on using the road as usual. Sarpanch Ramesh Nayak warned of agitation if the issue is not sorted out.
