Road in bad shape despite Rs 2 cr repair

Tihidi: Thousands of people in several panchayats under Tihidi block of Bhadrak district suffered commuting problems due to bad shape of Tihidi-Sathibankuda road. Locals alleged that the condition of the road had not improved even though Rs 2 crore was spent for its restoration.
The road is full of craters and potholes. Following repeated reminders about the bad condition of the road, the rural development department carried out its repair.
The Nabard had sanctioned Rs1.5 crore for the repair of the 5km long stretch in 2007.
Locals said, the money spent on the road went down the drains as the condition of the road from Tihidi and Sathibati is back to square one. The department has spent Rs50 lakhs. There is no sign of blacktop on the patch of the road while craters have become causes of accidents on this route.
The road connects Tihidi to Basudevpur. The route is used by people of Bhatapada, Saya, Maharampur, Bahabalpur, Rajagharpokhari, Jagannathprasad, Balimeda and Padmapur panchayats on a daily basis.
The locals alleged that contractors had botched up its repair leading to miserable condition of the road.
Surprisingly, junior engineer of the rural development department Pranab Mohapatra said repair of the road will be undertaken.
