Gopalpur: Robbers broke open an ATM at Kanisi Hata under Golanthara police limits here in Ganjam district and decamped with cash worth Rs 5,73,300 late Sunday night. According to reports, the miscreants entered into the UCO Bank ATM near National Highway-16 at Kanisi Hata late Sunday night and cut the machine open on the left side using a gas cutter. After looting cash worth Rs 5,73,300, they downed the shutter and fled the scene. Bank officials discovered the robbery after opening the ATM, Monday morning. Shibaram Panda, Assistant Branch Manager of the bank, complained in this regard at the Golanthara police station.
Upon receiving the information, Golanthara PS IIC Vivekananda Swain, SI Bibhuti Sethi, and a scientific team reached the spot and began an investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants had arrived in a white car and tampered with the nearby CCTV camera. A case (325/24) has been registered at Golanthara police station. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the NH-16 and nearby areas. They suspect that the miscreants may be from another state. When questioned, IIC Swain mentioned that various aspects are being investigated.
