Bhubaneswar: A youth, who fell into a water body at Tapang stone quarry Khurda district four days ago, is yet to be traced. A special robot prepared by NIT Rourkela was engaged in the rescue operation Thursday.
The youth went missing after he fell into the water body at Bada Saunlia under Tapang police limits in Khurda.
As per information, four students from a Pahala-based educational institute visited the Tapang Green Lake at Bada Saunlia Monday to shoot a reel. One of the youths fell into the quarry while making reels standing on the brink of the lake.
His friend Om Prakash Rath immediately jumped in an effort to rescue him. Though the youth who had slipped could be rescued, Om Prakash went missing.
A team of fire services rushed to the spot with an advanced waterproof camera to rescue Om Prakash. The firefighters, with assistance from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and the National Disaster Response Force were also engaged in the operation.
While all their efforts are yet to yield any positive result, the robot prepared by NIT Rourkela has now been engaged in the operation.
An official of the NIT said that the stone quarry is 100-foot deep and the whole area is being scanned inch by inch.
It may be mentioned that Khurda district administration had declared Nijigarh Tapang as a prohibited area. It urged people not to visit the place as many undetonated dynamites are still lying in the area which may pose threat to lives.
