Rohit Sharma closes in on another milestone

Rohit Sharma

New Delhi: Records and Rohit Sharma seem to be synonymous as far as T20 cricket is concerned. It seems that with every game, the stand-in skipper of the Indian team is attaching a new feather in his cap.

India’s seven-wicket victory Friday over New Zealand at Auckland meant that Rohit has now won 12 of the 14 games he has led India in the shortest format. Only two players have achieved such a feat – Australia’s former captain Michael Clarke and Pakistan’s Sarfraz Ahmed. Hence Rohit has now equalled the record of both Clarke and Sarfraz. If India win their game against New Zealand at Hamilton, Sunday, then the stand-in skipper will achieve another new milestone.

Rohit who became the top run-getter in the T20 version, Friday has left both Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli far behind in the success rate. Both Dhoni and Kohli won eight games each as captains in the T20 format. It looks like Kohli will have a lot of catching up to do in future.

Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and Afghanistan’s Asghar Stanikzai have won 11 matches each as skippers of their respective sides while third in the list are South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene. Both have won 10 matches apiece as captains.
