Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a private engineering college girl in Rourkela was allegedly held captive and gang-raped in Jharkhand by six youths for two days.
Rourkela police registered a case and launched a probe. Reportedly, the survivor is undergoing treatment at the Rourkela Government Hospital.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred December 31. The girl told the police that she was waiting to board a train at the Rourkela railway station to go to Jharsuguda, her native place.
Meanwhile, some met a youth who posed to be her brother’s friend. The youth misled her and got her board a Jharkhand-bound train along with him citing that due to track repair works, the train would be diverted via the neighbouring state.
The youth also assured that he would accompany her in the journey to reach home safely, the girl’s complaint stated.
As the train stopped at Lotapahad station, the youth asked the girl to get down and board a bus to Jharsuguda. Later, he took her to a house on the pretext of having lunch and kept her confined in the house. The youth later called his 5-6 friends and together they raped the girl in turns for two days.
The youths then dumped her in a nearby forest and fled the spot January 1. Some locals helped the survivor to reach Chakradharpur police station and lodge a complaint, said a source.
On the basis of the girl’s statement, a case (5/19) under Section 376 (D) of the IPC has been registered by Rourkela Government Railway Police. The case is being probed by GRP inspector-in-charge Hrusikesh Nayak.
