Rourkela: Preparations are on in full swing for hosting the men’s and women’s FIH Pro League matches that begin here at the Birsa Munda International hockey stadium February 12. Newly-appointed ADM Rourkela, Commissioner of Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC), and CEO of Rourkela Smart City Limited (RSCL), Ashutosh Kulkarni held a preparatory meeting here Tuesday with other officials so that the tournament can be conducted in a hassle-free manner. Kulkarni stressed the need for sanitation during the tournament. This aspect is being given special attention keeping in mind the recent outbreak of diarrhoea in this city just two months back.
A total of 18 people had lost their lives due to the disease. Kulkarni also stressed the uninterrupted supply of power during the tournament. “Along with sanitation, uninterrupted power supply is also another area of importance. Commissioner sir laid special stress on this aspect and also harped on the need for power back-up,” an official who attended the meeting said. Beautification of this city and areas around its vicinity are also going on in full swing, officials said. Along with roads leading to the stadium, the pavements are being repaired. Railings across the city are also getting a fresh coat of paint. The city is expected to receive a good number of visitors both from India and abroad like it happened during the World Cup played early last year.
