Rourkela: Construction of a labour hostel by Odisha government for industrial labourers working in the Kalunga Industrial Estate in Rourkela is in full swing.
“The sole aim of the project, which is unique in itself, is to provide hygienic, safe and comfortable stay to workers or labourers. They come from different parts of the state and beyond but do not get a proper place to stay, for which a hostel is being constructed for them,” said Minister for Labour and ESI Sarada Nayak.
The minister while explaining the project said, “This is being constructed for those people, who come to the state in search of livelihood and also contribute to its development. The construction is going on at full pace now and would be completed in two years’ time.”
The hostel is spread over an area measuring five acres. There will be four multi-storeyed hostels with 1,606 rooms and each room will house two persons. “Of the four hostels, three hostels will have seven floors and the other hostel will have three floors with lifts. The three-storeyed hostel will provide facilities like dining, cafe, entertainment room, two multipurpose halls and indoor games provisions,” said Nayak.
The project began in April, 2023. Work is going on in full swing and over 200 labourers are working in three shifts to complete the project in time. The on-site monitoring office is similarly working full time here to keep strict watch over daily progress of the project.
The hostel is coming up at a cost of Rs45 crore and has been awarded to UCDL of Burla. The project manager Umakant Gupta said, “The work is going on as per the schedule and the quality of the work is being maintained assiduously. There is no compromise anywhere.”
