Rourkela woman conned off valuables by ‘astrologer’

Rourkela: A lady was robbed of the gold ornaments she was wearing here Monday by a couple of persons, one of whom posed as an ‘astrologer’. The audacity of the act by the two men completely left the victim mesmerised and shocked and it was she who parted with her jewellery as the man promised to ‘purify them’. The victim, whose identity has been kept secret for the sake of investigation, has filed a complaint at the Chhend police station here. The lady told media persons that when she was returning home with her son from school, a man on a scooter approached her. The man convinced her that she faulted her ‘stars’. “The man told me that I will lose valuables and my husband will be in trouble. I got bewildered and scared,” the victim said. While this was going on, another man arrived at the spot. He lavished huge praise on the first person only to confuse the victim. The second man told the alleged ‘astrologer’ that he is happy and safe now following the latter’s instructions. “All this completely baffled me and I started believing the man who had first approached me,” the lady informed.

To top it all, the ‘astrologer’ asked the victim to get some camphor so that he could ‘purify’ the valuables. When the woman got it, he asked her to remove all the jewellery that she was wearing. “I was so mesmerised that I obeyed the man blindly. The man then asked me to walk backwards 81 steps and then again return to the spot. By the time, I came back, the man and his accomplice had vanished,” the woman stated. By that time, the woman realised that she had been duped and then she lodged a police complaint.
