Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday approved five infrastructure development projects worth Rs 265 crore for the pilgrim town Puri.
Naveen held a high level meeting at the Lok Seva Bhavan here for the development of Puri and approved an array of projects for the holy town.
Lakhs of devotees from all over the world come to Puri for darshan of Lord Jagannath at Srimandir. To provide better facilities and service to them, the five projects will be executed under Abhada scheme, official sources suggested.
It was decided at the meeting to build 1,250 shops at the Municipality Market in Puri.
Parking facilities will be extended at the old jail premises to facilitate accommodation of 400 cars at a time. Similarly, Jatrika premises in the town will be developed to create parking space for another 400 cars, the sources said.
The Collector’s office and other government offices in the town will be brought under one roof, following which it will be easier for the public to get all their official work done.
It was also decided at the meeting that Acharya Harihara Square Road would be expanded. These works would be executed by Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Limited under the supervision of the Works department, added the sources.
