Rs 28crore sanctioned for RD College

Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: The state’s higher education department has sanctioned Rs 28crore to Rama Devi Women’s college for development of the college infrastructure, stated college principal Pragyanparamita Samantasinghar here Friday.

Addressing the media Friday, the principal said that, with the funds from the higher education department, the college was planning to construct three hostels, one convention center with a sitting capacity of 1,000 and a library at a cost of Rs 3crore.

Samantasinghar said President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the college has been postponed by an hour. “Earlier the President was expected to reach the college at 4:15pm, but this has been postponed to 5:15. The President would be here for an hour. The Chief Minister and the Governor are also special invitees for the golden jubilee celebrations of the college,” she said.

Due to security reasons, the unveiling of three statues of ‘women empowerment’ by the President inside the college premises has been cancelled. Various art and cultural events by students would form part of the day’s celebrations. A prize distribution ceremony would be held December 1, followed by an alumni association meet December 2.
