Balasore, June 2: The drainage system in Balasore town will go through a major renovation at Rs 5.76 crore. The renovation project will ease drainage of water from the town. Water-logging during monsoon usually leaves residents in the lurch for days together.
The water resources department (the drainage division) carries out renovation of five main drains in the town. MLA Jiban Pradip Das laid a foundation stone for the project near BEd College Saturday.
The total length of the five drains is 11740 metres. The drains to be renovated are Samalpur drain(from NH-50) to Nuniajodi, Nuniajodi-Balighat drain, Chidiapola-Chunabhati drain, Mirzapokhari drain and Sunahat drain.
However, encroachment is a major problem for early completion of the project. The MLA said the bottlenecks in the eviction drive will be removed.
