Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned Rs 55,00,000 for stray animals like cattle and dogs to be fed during the second wave of the pandemic, Sunday. The amount was released from the CM’s Relief Fund.
The ongoing Covid-induced lockdown and weekend shutdowns have hit the stray animals hard. Keeping this in view, the CM has released the money for the second time.
The amount has been sanctioned to five municipal corporations, 48 municipalities and 61 NACs. With this money, these civic bodies with the help of NGOs will feed the stray animals in their localities.
As per the direction, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) can spend Rs 20,000 a day. Similarly, the amount to be spent a day on stray animals is Rs 10,000 for each of the Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur Municipal Corporations.
While the municipalities can spend Rs 5,000 a day, for the NACs the amount has been fixed at Rs 2,000.
Notably, in the first phase, an amount of Rs 60,00, 000 was released from the CM’s Relief Fund May 9.
