Puri: In the wake of demolition of the Emar Mutt close to Srimandir, the state government Sunday decided to sanction Rs 5crore to modernise the Raghunandan Library of the ancient Mutt.
The Mutt was bulldozed as part of a demolition drive launched by the district administration. According to Puri District Collector Balwant Singh, Rs 5 crore sanctioned for the Mutt will be utilized for modernising its library. Several ancient palm leaf manuscripts and Scriptures, which were stored in the rich library would also be digitized.
Notably, all valuable manuscripts, books and furniture of the library have been shifted to a building in the Collector’s office in the wake of the demolition of the libraru of the Mutt. A new library was proposed to be built on the Mutt land, government officials suggested. The library will also house valuable books of the temple and scripture on Jaganath cult.
The state government and the Puri district administration have taken up the eviction drive surrounding the Srimandir and all structures within 76 metres of its boundary wall are being demolished. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced Rs 500 crore to execute the drive and constructions.
