Rising Student Club and Young Utkal Club players in action during their match in Cuttack, Wednesday

Cuttack: Rising Student Club came from a goal down to thrash Young Utkal Club 4-1 to sail into the semifinals of the FAO Super Cup football tournament here at Barabati Stadium, Wednesday. In the other quarterfinal, Sports Hostel got a walkover as their opponents Rising Star Club failed to turn up.

Rakesh Sahoo gave YUC the lead in the sixth minute but their joy was shortlived as Rising Student equalised through Raju Bisar three minutes later. Rising Student dominated the match thereafter giving no chance to the opposition players. Arbind Lakra doubled the lead on 23 minutes to go into the break with a 2-1 scoreline.

Rising Student continued their dominance in the second half too as they added to more goals to surge ahead. Chandra Sekhar Behera added the third on 75th minute with Lakhai Murmu completing the rout three minutes from time.

 

Cash reward

Football Association of Odisha (FAO) has announced Wednesday a cash reward of Rs 10,000 each for India U-16 footballers Beekey Oram and Sameer Kerketta who were the part of the Indian team that lost to South Korea in the quarterfinals of the AFC U-16 Championships in Malaysia. In another development same day, FAO has declared a cash reward of Rs 5,000 each to all the members of the Odisha senior women’s football team including the coach, manager and physio  for their runners-up finish in the National Senior Women’s Football Championship which recently concluded here.
