Bhubaneswar: The Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) will use mobile apps designed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways – DigiLocker and mParivahan — for verification of certificates during enforcement.
These apps have the facility to pull a citizen’s driving license or registration certificate in electronic form from the database. These records are legally recognised at par with the original documents as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000.
A letter issued by the Transport Commissioner to all RTOs stated, “you are directed to consider the document available in the electronic form in DigiLocker platform or mParivahan mobile app as valid under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and be treated at par with the certificates issued by the Transport Authorities.”
In case the RTOs need to impound documents, the enforcement agencies can do it electronically through e-challan system that would be reflected in Vahan/Sarathi database, the letter added.
