Bhubaneswar: In order to facilitate registration of new vehicles and to provide other essential services during the upcoming Laxmi Puja holidays, the State Transport Authority (STA) has directed all regional transport offices (RTOs) in Odisha to remain open October 31. This announcement was made Thursday evening.

Usually during the festive season, a large number of vehicles are sold. This year however, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic sales have dipped. Even then, some people have acquired new vehicles. The decision to keep the RTOs open has been taken as dealers will not be allowed to deliver any vehicle sans registration.
The STA said the registration section of RTOs shall remain open between 3.00pm to 5.00pm October 31 to receive documents from respective local dealers. This will help them in allotting registration numbers to newly-purchased vehicles.
“The respective RTOs shall make roster arrangements and shall intimate regarding this to all dealers under their limits. For smooth disposal of dealer point registration and approval, RTOs may arrange for ‘work from home’ during the holidays,” the STA order stated.
Notably, the Odisha government has announced holiday for three days starting October 30 to November 1, 2020 on the occasion of Laxmi Puja.
