Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP, Congress and the Treasury bench members Tuesday stalled the business of Odisha Assembly during the zero-hour forcing Speaker B K Arukh to adjourn the house till 1600 hours.
The trouble started in the Assembly as soon as the question hour was over at 1130 hours to take
up the zero-hour business.
The BJP members trooped into the well of the house and shouted slogans on the absence of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accusing him of not respecting the house and remaining absent during important debates.
Leader of Opposition Jaya Naraya Mishra alleged that the Chief Minister had visited Mumbai to receive the award which he claimed was a “sponsored one” when the house was in session to debate important issues including the law and order situation.
However, BJD member Debi Mishra countered the leader of Opposition and said the Chief Minister had received the award for Odisha which has been adjudged as the best state for promotion of sports in the country. The Chief Minister, he said had dedicated the award to the people of the state.
The agitated BJP members rushed to the podium and started raising slogans against the government and the Chief Minister.
The Congress members too rushed into the well of the house and shouted slogans protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation and the murder of state Health Minister Naba
Das.
To counter the Opposition members, the treasury bench members carrying placards on their hands raised slogans on their seats against the centre for neglecting the state in releasing funds and houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The house soon plunged into a chaotic situation and the Speaker finding it difficult to run the business smoothly, adjourned it till 1600 hours without transacting any business.
The women’s wing of ruling BJD led by women MLAs staged a protest demonstration in front of the Raj Bhawan here against the apathetic attitude of the centre in providing houses to Odisha under the PMAY.
