Rugby eves earn double win

Cuttack, Feb 11: Orissa eves started their campaign in style as they performed splendidly to earn double wins in their Pool-B matches of the rugby event in the National Games at Kochi, Wednesday. Meanwhile, the men’s team had a mixed performance with one victory and one loss.

In their first match, Orissa women’s team thrashed Chhattisgarh 32-5. Meera Rani Hembram scored 15 points, while Hupi Majhi and Sanjukta Munda scored five points each. In the second match, Orissa routed Delhi 22-5. Laxmi Priya Sahoo, Sumitra Banara, Meera Rani Hembram and Hupi Majhi scored for the winning team.

In the men’s category, Orissa beat Tamil Nadu 17-31 with Niranjan Biswal, Gourang Jamuda, Sunil Hembram, Muna Murmu and Rajeev Nath scoring. But in the second match Orissa were beaten defeated 10-27 by Haryana.
