Nayagarh: Separate teams of Odisha Vigilance sleuths carried out simultaneous raids Wednesday morning at six different places linked to assistant executive engineer (AEE) Gobinda Chandra Sahoo presently working in the Rural Works (RW) department at Nayagarh sub-division in this district.

Raids were conducted on the residence of Sahoo and in other places based on the allegation that he has amassed assets disproportionate to his legal sources of income.

“Simultaneous searches are being conducted by the teams led by five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), five Inspectors and several other staff. Acting on a tip-off, the sleuths conducted raids at six different places in Cuttack, Khurda and Nayagarh districts on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Vigilance Judge in Cuttack,” a senior official of the anti-corruption agency informed.

Six places where the separate searches were carried out include: a rented residential house No-101 located in Basera Impression (Plus category) of Patia area in Bhubaneswar, Sahoo’s ancestral house at Pinapur village in Babujunga under Kishorenagar police limits and a single-storey building at Alishabazar under Lalbagh police limits, both in Cuttack City, a two-storey building located on plot No-61/557 at Gayatri Vihar (apartment) of Jokalandi under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar, his office located at RW sub-division and a house, both located in Nayagarh town.

Valuation of disproportionate assets that the government official has amassed will be ascertained after the simultaneous raids are over.

“Raids are likely to continue to detect all the movable and immovable assets of Sahoo. Vigilance sleuths have been scrutinising several important documents seized during raids,” the source said.

Further search is underway and details are awaited.
