New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial Rajasthan Assembly session from August 14, rebel Congress leader Sachin Pilot met party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra here Monday. There were positive indications that the ongoing imbroglio in Rajasthan Congress may see better days after this meeting. Sachin Pilot also indicated after the meeting that things ‘turn better for the future’ after the meeting.
Top Congress sources said the meeting took place a little after noon at Rahul Gandhi’s residence and a ‘positive outcome’ was expected. Sources also confirmed that Pilot has been in touch with the top Congress leadership and a formula for his return was being worked out.
Pilot and 18 other MLAs have rebelled against the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan. The development led to Pilot’s sacking as Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and the state party chief. However, he was not expelled from the party.
A party panel will be formed to look into Pilot’s grievances said sources. According to team Pilot this is an important development. Sources added that both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra agreed to ‘resolve’ all issues regarding Rajasthan. The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, was described as ‘a meeting of minds’ by team Pilot.
Sources also said that Priyanka played a key role in getting Pilot across for talks. She has been credited for mollifying Pilot and his team. Sources said that Priyanka met Pilot at a common acquaintance’s place approximately two weeks back. She informed him that the Congress had not closed its door on him or the rebel MLAs. Since then things have been moving in a positive direction.
