SAD to support Women’s Reservation Bill

New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Thursday assured a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) delegation comprising Odisha Cabinet Minister Surya Narayan Patro and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy that it would support the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament.
The BJD delegation met Union Food Processing Minister and SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal at Panchsheel Bhawan and seek the support for passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament.
The BJD team also gave her a letter from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
“We met SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal to seek support for the Bill. She assured us that her party will support in passing of the Bill in Parliament,” said Satpathy.
“She told us that she had a talk with Parkash Singh Badal who said that the reservation for women should be 50 per cent instead of 33 per cent,” Satpathy added.
Earlier, the ruling BJD formed delegations to meet seven national parties and 15 regional parties to seek their support for 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has taken the initiative to ensure 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
Accordingly, a unanimous resolution was passed in the Odisha Assembly while Naveen has written letters to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of all states and UTs in this regard.
