Bhubaneswar: The 17.799-kilometre-long double line between Sagadapada and Tangiriapal of the Jaroli-Jakhapura doubling project has been opened for train movement.

The line has been opened for train movement from March 3 last after getting clearance from the Commission of Railway Safety(CRS).

The commissioning of the supercritical rail project will enable better capacity for the existing traffic facility for the carriage of goods mostly iron and manganese ore as well as passenger traffic.

A source in ECoR said that transportation of iron ores and coal to the nearest port like Dharma, Paradeep and Vishakhapatnam would be easier apart from running passenger-carried trains.

The line connects iron and manganese-rich areas under Keonjhar district to the nearest ports and many steel plants.

Banspani -Jaroli- Daitari -Tomka-Jakhapura doubling is about 180 kilometres. The sanctioned cost of the project is Rs 1,826 crore now. Out of 180 kilometres 124 kilometres have already been completed by February 2023.

CRS has approved to run trains maximum of 90 kmph in the newly commissioned Sagadapada-Tangiriapal Railway section. The section has six major and 46 minor bridges.
