SAIL to produce more cyclone resistant electricity poles

Rourkela: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has decided to produce more special quality wide ‘H-type’ parallel (cyclone resistant) electric poles to facilitate electricity supply in the Fani-hit areas of Odisha.

The Union Ministry of Steel has started extending assistance to meet the immediate requirements of the state government. SAIL has already sent 500 electric poles to cyclone affected areas. The consignment reached its destination May 5 morning.

The Rourkela Steel Plant authorities have confirmed that 5,000 more electric poles will be supplied to cyclone-hit areas soon. Subsequently, 15,000 more special quality electric poles will be sent to the cyclone affected areas of Odisha.

It is learnt that the new Medium Structural Unit of Durgapur Steel Plant has kept its production schedule in abeyance for this. Keeping in mind the severe devastation caused by Fani, SAIL has also extended support.

SAIL has opened a 24-hour control room at New Delhi to coordinate matters. It has also assured that it will extend support in meeting national calamities. SAIL employees are trying their best to ensure the success of the project, the RSP authorities said in a statement issued at Bhubaneswar.
