Bhubaneswar, June 25: Saina Salonika overcame a tough challenge from statemate Shreya Smruti Mohanty to emerge triumphant and is sharing the top spot along with two other players in the U-12 girls’ category after the completion of the third round of the Commonwealth Chess Championships at New Delhi, Thursday. She has so far won all her three matches convincingly to pick up three points.
In the U-12 open category, Sambit Panda outwitted Harshit Arya to be in joint third position. In the U-14 Open category, Ansuman Samal is sharing the joint second spot along with three others with 2.5 points each. He checkmated R Dileep Kumar.
Pricila selected
Pricila Baxla of Orissa has been selected to the Indian rowing team for the 18th Asian Junior Rowing Championships at Wuhan, China July 4-7. Rowing Federation of India (RFI) announced the squad Thursday, in which Pricila has found a place for coxless fours event. Pricila, who is a trainee at Jagatpur SAI Rowing Centre impressed with her skills in the selection camp which recently concluded at Hyderabad.
FAO Women’s League
Football Association of Orissa will organise the FAO Women’s League starting July 5. “Altogether eight teams divided into two groups will participate in the league,” FAO stated in a press release Thursday.
