Saina, Anwesha among joint leaders

Bhubaneswar, June 26: Saina Salonika won her fourth match on the trot to maintain her top position after the completion of the fourth round in the U-12 girls’ event of the Commonwealth Chess Championships at New Delhi, Friday.
Saina is currently sharing pole position along with Mrudul Dehankar. Both have four points each. Saina got the better of Bomini Monnika Akshaya. However Shreya Smruti Mohanty lost to V Nanditha.
In the boys’ open segment, Sambit Panda outwitted Avishkar Wankhede to be in joint second spot along with two others with three points apiece.
In the U-14 girls’ category, Anwesha Mishra moved up to the top spot after prevailing over Supreetha Poturi. She is sharing the top spot with Vantika Agarwal (both on 3.5 points). In the boys’ open segment, Ansuman Samal checkmated Vinay Vitalkar to maintain his joint second spot along with PR Hrithikesh.
In the U-10 girls’ category, Miracle Panda regained her form to beat Mahi Amit Doshi and achieve her second victory in the tournament.
Chess tourney
Puri District Chess Association (PDCA) will organise the 22nd Makhanlal Halder Memorial All Orissa Open Chess Championship in Puri, July 3-5. Players from all age categories can participate in the event, which carries a cash prize of `28, 500.
