Bhubaneswar, August 9: Saina Salonika slipped to the second position after losing her eighth round match in the U-12 girls’ category of the Asian Youth Chess Championship at Suwon, South Korea, Sunday. Saina lost to Bach Ngol Thuy Duong of Vietnam in a tight match. Saina is now sharing the joint second spot along with four others with 5.5 points each.
In the U-18 open category, Vaibhav Mishra defeated Nguyen Hoang Duc of Vietnam in a sixth round match. With this victory, Vaibhav jumped to the joint second spot with four points in his kitty.
Mahitosh Dey won his eighth round match against Ebrahimi Sina of Ireland in the U-10 open category. With this victory, Mahitosh leapfrogged to the joint third position with five points.
In the U-18 girls’ category, Smaraki Mohanty remained static in the joint sixth place despite a thumping win against compatriot Isha Sharma in a sixth round match.
