Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: The Principal of Sainik School Bhubaneswar, Group Captain S Dominic Rayan, has expressed his gratitude to the state government for its decision to revise the scholarship scheme for Odia students studying in the school.
The state government has taken a landmark decision and revised the income slabs and scholarship amount with respect to Odisha domicile students studying in Sainik School.
Now, students studying in the school whose parents’ income per annum is Rs 3 lakh and below will get full scholarship up to Rs 95,000 (approx) a year from the Government of Odisha and the Ministry of Defence. Revision of scholarship is expected to revive one of the most important objectives of Sainik School which is bringing public school education within the reach of common man.
Speaking at a press conference held at school premises, Wednesday, the principal said that various state governments have been granting scholarships at different income slabs for home state students studying in Sainik Schools in their respective states.
However, the Ministry of Defence in 2018 had recommended implementation of a uniform scholarship scheme wherein the full scholarship was recommended at par with the tuition fee being charged with income slabs ranging between Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs.
Now, parents of Odisha domicile General, SC and ST categories students whose annual income is up to Rs 3 lakhs would get financial assistance up to Rs 95,000 per annum from the state government and Defence Ministry. In fact, Odisha is the first state government to implement this uniform scholarship scheme.
